Opening weekend for the Columbus Zoo and it was a scorcher of a day! This really is the best zoo in the U.S. (San Diego a close second). Mateo now recognizes most the animals and was awestruck by the sheer size of the large ones like Rhinos and Elephants. We skipped the Manatee section this time and went straight for the best sections of the zoo with the Tigers/Lions, Apes and Gorrillas, and Elephants and Giraffes. We saw everything but Giraffes – it seems they were on strike due to the heat but the other’s didn’t disapoint.
The elephants were the most phone as we caught them having a ball cooling off in their wading pool with mommy, daddy, and little baby elephant taking a shared bath. It was a fast and furious quick run of about 3hours since we were sweating like Richard Simmons to the Oldies with ashot as was that day (95+) but fun nonetheless. This will be definitely one of the attractions we’d miss the most after our time in Columbus comes to an end.
